Become a Volunteer!

Camp Sunrise at Camp Warwick offers a unique volunteer opportunity for anyone who has completed 9th grade and is at least 15+ years old. Camp Sunrise is a week-long camp experience for adults, 18-55 years old, who have disabilities. Since 1978, we have been inviting volunteers to participate in this program and volunteers help to make this program possible! Our volunteers work alongside our summer staff to build relationships, and care for, and support our campers each week. Our volunteers will tell you that this community is welcoming, warm, positive, accepting, and a great place to learn and grow.

Each day looks a little different but we go swimming, hiking, play recreation games, play bingo, do crafts, make tie dye, go to the beach, bowling, and the drive-in, participate in reflections (Christian Education), and so much more! Many of our campers have been attending camp for a long time and LOVE to show their new counselors everything that we do! Camp is an amazing place to find friendships, gain new skills, and see what the Holy Spirit is doing in and through you.

And we have more than 1 opportunity to volunteer! Join us for any of our 1-week sessions this summer, we have 5, or for a Camp Snowball weekend! Camp Snowball is a great opportunity to try it out for the first time!

Are you looking for service hours? We would love to sign off on 80 hours for a week or 25 hours for a weekend!

My time at Camp Warwick has taught me kindness, and patience, and that I am loved and important.

I am learning to set healthy boundaries/expectations for my camper and counselor relationships and how to not let things like uncertainty push my boundaries.

What are the responsibilities of a volunteer?

Health and safety of your campers. This is always our number one priority here at Camp Warwick. We have experienced staff available at all times and a licensed nurse.

Building relationships with campers. This happens through fun and play, but also through care and attention. When a camper knows that they can trust you and knows that you are making sure that they are healthy, clean, and ready to have fun, those relationships begin to blossom!

Assisting with daily living tasks. We have a variety of campers with a variety of assistance needs. Some campers need reminders to move through the day while others need assistance with things like bathing, dressing, toileting, and eating.

Having fun! Camp is always supposed to be a fun and supportive community, so don’t be surprised if it is the highlight of your summer!

As a new volunteer, you will receive orientation and training before campers arrive and mentoring throughout the week. New volunteers are always paired with campers we know will give them a great first week and fellow counselors who can help guide them through the position.

Application Process

To volunteer, complete the application through CampBrain and choose the session you want to attend. All volunteers are asked to participate in a brief phone interview before scheduling a formal interview, provide 3 references to be contacted, participate in a background check, complete our medical form, and provide a copy of your immunization record.
